  • 8 oz pasta regular, whole wheat, or gluten-free
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese optional
  • Red pepper flakes optional

Method

  1. Cook the pasta in a large pot of salted water according to package instructions until al dente.
  2. During the last 2–3 minutes of cooking, add the broccoli florets to the same pot.
  3. Drain the pasta and broccoli, reserving a small amount of pasta water.
  4. In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  5. Add the garlic and sauté briefly until fragrant.
  6. Add the drained pasta and broccoli to the pan and toss gently.
  7. Add a splash of reserved pasta water if needed to loosen the sauce.
  8. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  9. Remove from heat and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if using.
  10. Serve warm.

Notes

• Do not overcook the broccoli to keep it bright and tender.
• Add lemon zest or juice for extra freshness.
• Use whole wheat pasta for extra fiber.
• Skip the cheese or use a plant-based alternative for a vegan version.
