Homemade Soft Pretzel Bites

Soft, chewy, golden, bakery-style pretzel bites made at home with simple ingredients. Perfect for snacking, dipping, parties, game nights, or anytime you want a warm, buttery treat.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water 110°F / 43°C
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/4 cup baking soda for boiling
  • 1 large egg beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse salt for topping

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in the melted butter and salt.
  3. Gradually add the flour and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
  6. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, then slowly add the baking soda.
  8. Divide the dough into 4–6 long ropes. Cut each rope into bite-sized pieces.
  9. Boil pretzel bites in batches for 30–45 seconds.
  10. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on baking sheet.
  11. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle coarse salt on top.
  12. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
  13. Brush warm pretzel bites with melted butter before serving.

Notes

• Use bread flour for chewier pretzel bites.
• For sweet pretzels, skip the salt and toss warm bites in cinnamon sugar.
• Top with shredded cheese before baking for cheesy pretzel bites.
• Stuff dough pieces with small cheese cubes before boiling for cheese-filled pretzels.
• Serve with cheese dip, mustard, garlic butter, or chocolate sauce.
