Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 recommended
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil optional
  • 1 medium onion thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce optional
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • 6 –8 slices provolone or American cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls split
  • Optional: mushrooms jalapeños

Method

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add onion and bell pepper; sauté until soft and lightly caramelized.
  3. Stir in garlic and Worcestershire sauce; cook 30 seconds. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Lower heat and lay cheese over the beef mixture. Cover briefly until melted.
  5. Lightly toast hoagie rolls.
  6. Spoon cheesy beef mixture into rolls and serve hot.

Notes

Toasting the rolls helps prevent sogginess.
Freshly sliced cheese melts more smoothly.
